What we do
Care kits, food items, pantry partnerships, resource information, research, and public education across Alberta.
Care Kit Distribution
The Need
Many people facing homelessness or financial insecurity lack reliable access to basic hygiene and personal care items.
What We Do
We assemble and distribute care kits containing soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, wipes, grooming supplies, bandages, razors, snacks, information cards, and other essentials when available — through volunteers and community partners.
How to Support
Donate hygiene items, sponsor kit supplies, help assemble kits, or volunteer with distribution.
Food & Essential Item Support
The Need
Food insecurity often overlaps with housing instability and financial hardship. Small supports can make a real difference.
What We Do
AHF distributes food items such as bread, baked goods from COBS Bread, snacks, water, fruit or veggie pouches, and non-perishable items when available through donations and community partnerships.
How to Support
Donate non-perishable food items, connect us with food donors, sponsor snack packs, or help with sorting and distribution.
Campus & Community Pantry Partnerships
The Need
Students and community members facing financial hardship need low-barrier access to hygiene items and basic supplies.
What We Do
We partner with organizations like PESJO at the University of Calgary to stock pantry-based access points with hygiene items and essentials.
How to Support
Partner your campus or community org with AHF, donate supplies, or help us expand to new locations.
Resource Information
The Need
Finding the right shelter, food, mental health, or crisis resource is confusing — especially during difficult periods.
What We Do
We maintain a Get Help directory with contact information for shelters, food banks, crisis lines, health services, and community supports across Alberta.
How to Support
Share updated resource information, suggest corrections, or help us keep the directory current.
Research & Community Health
The Need
People experiencing homelessness and financial hardship often face significant barriers to healthcare. Preventive concerns like liver health can go unaddressed when basic needs come first.
What We Do
AHF supports community-based research on liver health, healthcare access barriers, unmet needs, and low-barrier screening acceptability among people experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, and financial hardship.
How to Support
Support research partnerships, data collection, literature reviews, report writing, or community health initiatives.
Education & Public Awareness
The Need
Homelessness, poverty, and healthcare barriers are often misunderstood. Stigma makes it harder for people to seek help and for communities to respond.
What We Do
We publish blog posts and educational content about homelessness, food insecurity, rural poverty, healthcare access, and liver health awareness.
How to Support
Read and share our posts, suggest topics, contribute writing, or help develop educational materials.
